Nature Walk: Eastern Cottontails

“When we see an Eastern Cottontail Rabbit nibbling grass, feeding on dandelions or running across our lawn, the detailed facial markings are not easy to see unless you have binoculars and a motionless critter. In this photo we can see an eye ring, two bands around its nose and one around its neck. In addition there are subtle, but detailed, spots and lines in gradations of black, white and gray. All together they are perfect camouflage in a grassy field if you remain motionless. ” -Carl Kurtz
