Nature Walk: Fox Sparrows

Posted on December 15, 2014 at 10:00 AM by Taylor Eisenhauer

Fox Sparrow

“In autumn Fox sparrows migrate south from their breeding territory in northern boreal forests through the central states. They are somewhat larger than song sparrows, which have similar markings, but are brick red instead of dark brown. Most appear to precede winter weather in their migration and are generally uncommon in mid-winter. Like their finch relatives cardinals and grosbeaks they are seed eaters.” – Carl Kurtz
