Nature Walk: Moon Views

“Depending on the cloud cover or atmospheric distortion, the view of the moon phases each month can be very different. In this series, starting at the upper left, we see it behind a thin layer of clouds. Next it appears just above the horizon, distorted by atmospheric heat and humidity. On the bottom left, we see a full moon high in the sky on a clear night. Lastly, a quarter moon high in the west makes it possible to see shadows cast by the craters on its surface.” – Carl Kurtz
