Nature Walk: Grasshopper Sparrow

For grassland birds such as the grasshopper sparrow, insects such as this grasshopper are an important source of protein for the growth and development of nestlings.  Prairies or pastures that contain a variety of forbs (flowering plants) coupled with light to moderate grazing can host a wider variety of insects and are utilized by more species of grassland birds." --- Carl Kurtz
