Greg SchmittIowa Natural Heritage Foundation is pleased to introduce Greg Schmitt as INHF’s Eastern Iowa Community Engagement Coordinator. This position will enhance INHF’s presence in the Eastern Iowa region, developing partner and community relationships.

From childhood, Greg Schmitt has been an outdoorsy guy, wandering hills and woodlands around Balltown, IA. He later earned a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries and Wildlife Biology from Iowa State University and set off on a new outdoor adventure, working as a roadside manager in Buchanan and Greene counties and then as a Private Lands Wildlife Biologist with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources for 20 years.

Greg’s inclination for conservation follows him home where he works on wildlife habitat projects on his brother’s or his own property. He also enjoys hunting, golfing and following the Cyclones with his wife, Michelle.

Always one to follow new opportunities, Greg looks forward to meeting new people and finding commonalities that bring people together.

“It's a small world and if you talk to someone long enough, you know some of the same people and share some of the same interests,” Greg reflects. “I find that fascinating. I'm excited to build on past relationships and foster new ones in Eastern Iowa with individuals and groups that share the vision of protecting and restoring some of Iowa’s most precious natural areas.”

Connect with Greg at gschmitt@inhf.org with your ideas for deepening INHF’s community connections.
