Prescribed Fire Workshop

Join our partners at Madison County Conservation for a basic prescribed fire workshop. Whether you are a landowner interested in using fire as a land management tool or just wanting to learn more about prescribed fire, this workshop is for you! INHF's Ryan Schmidt, central Iowa land stewardship director, will be presenting. 

The sessions will consist of mostly indoors instruction. There will be some outdoor sessions towards the end of the day, weather permitting. Any, and all experience levels are welcome! Note: No live burns will take place. No certification will be given for the completion of this workshop. It is educational training to enhance understanding of prescribed fire as a management tool.

Topics covered in the workshop include:

  • Ecological Benefits of Fire Management
  • Goals Developing Effective Burn Plans
  • Understanding Fire Weather
  • Firebreaks
  • Essential Tools and Equipment
  • Ignition Methods Safety

There is a $25 registration fee that includes lunch, donuts and coffee. Register and learn more here. The registration deadline is October 27.
