You're invited to Snyder Heritage Farm for a fall prairie seed harvest!
Spend an autumn evening learning about the land, exploring the prairie and gathering native seed to support its ongoing restoration. Stay after the harvest to hike around the area's prairie, woodland and oak savanna.
Seed harvesting can be done using your hands or clippers to collect seeds into buckets and bags. This activity is a favorite among our volunteers because of how peaceful and relaxing it is. It’s a great way to get to know the prairie more intimately and learn about this special ecosystem.
An RSVP is required. RSVP
ABOUT SNYDER HERITAGE FARM
For nearly 30 years, Snyder Heritage Farm has been slowly transitioning from a traditional farm back to a blend of prairie, oak savanna, woodland and wetland ecosystems. It is now a 154-acre natural area just north of the Des Moines metro. Snyder Heritage Farm is stewarded by Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation.
Volunteers will have the opportunity to collect a small bag of prairie seed to take home to establish their own prairie planting.
