Join Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation for a winter work day at Solitaire Ridge. We'll spend a couple hours on the land removing unwanted brush to help the property's native hill prairie thrive. Please arrive early to park and check-in.
Invasive brush removal involves using various hand tools (handsaws or loppers) to manually cut invasive brush. Here, that includes cutting and treating invasive honeysuckle and small eastern red cedar trees (trees not native to this ecosystem) from the remnant hill prairie.
No experience necessary. Instruction will be provided. Hand tools and herbicide for cut-stump treatment will be provided. Cold weather work attire and sturdy boots are a must as steep topography and loose rock will be an issue.

ABOUT SOLITAIRE RIDGE
Solitaire Ridge is a 33-acre property situated among the steep limestone bluffs in Allamakee County along the Upper Iowa River. The primary habitat consists of a portion of remnant (native) hill prairie, known locally as Mile-Long prairie, and a 5-acre prairie reconstruction. INHF purchased the property in 2010 and has owned and stewarded it since.

- Cold weather work attire including hat, work gloves, long pants and layers
- Sturdy shoes or hiking boots (please note: terrain is steep)
- A water bottle
