This 4.2-mile trail will connect the City of Farragut to the 64-mile Wabash Trace Nature Trail.
Tucked into the far southwest corner of Iowa just a stone's throw from the Wabash Trace Nature Trail, a 64-mile trail stretching from Council Bluffs to Blanchard, lies the City of Farragut, a town with a quirky history and convenient trail-side amenities.
Farragut was founded by two families that idolized Admiral Farragut, an accomplished U.S. naval officer revered for his service to the Union in the Civil War - so much so that they named everything in town for him! The admiral is perhaps best known for his victory at the Battle of Mobile Bay in which he famously proclaimed, "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" This bold, go-getter attitude lives on in the people of the town that bares his namesake (pop. 485), who are working hard to convert this former Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad corridor into a multi-use trail.
Once complete, the Admiral Trail will highlight Farragut's unique past and connect trail enthusiasts to local attractions and amenities including the Harbor Café and Marketplace, public restrooms and showers.
