“Keep It Clean, Keep It Fun” Campaign

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIowa has 18,000 miles of navigable creeks, rivers and lakes, allowing people to paddle all over the state. As we head into summer, paddling is a great way to explore Iowa's natural areas, have fun and get some exercise. It is important, though, that users respect these waters. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has put a campaign together to inform and help paddlers do just that.

Through the “Keep It Clean, Keep It Fun” campaign, the Iowa DNR is supplying boat and tube rental liveries with trash sacks, posters and stickers to help promote a better on-river ethic. They will also have materials on hand to aid paddlers in reporting violations and improper behavior that they observe while on the water. More law enforcement will also be present on Iowa's waterways this summer to reduce illegal activity. If you would like to display a poster in a storefront or paddling club meeting, you can request one from Todd Robertson, River Programs Outreach Coordinator.
