Iowa may not have mountains, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great place for skiing.

This Midwestern state has trails perfect for cross country skiing. If you think you'd like to give it a try, join Polk County Conservation for a class on the basics.

The class will take place at the Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt in Polk County on December 26. The class will start with instructions on proper clothing, equipment and skiing techniques. Then participants will be able to practice on the trails. Individuals can participate in the 10 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. session.

There are a limited number of spots in each class so if you interested in participating, pre-register by December 20. The class is for people 10-years-old and older and costs $10 per person. The fee includes the skis, boots and poles newbies will need.
