Prairie Seed Collection at Neal Smith NWR
By Taylor on September 12, 2013 in Blog
Help the Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge restore even more beautiful Iowa prairie during the last days of Iowa Prairie Heritage Week!
On Sept. 14, there will be a prairie seed collection at Neal Smith Wildlife Refuge in Prairie City. Volunteers will collect seed to use for restoring more prairies on the refuge from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Volunteers should meet in the Visitor Center at about 9 a.m., and then the group will head out to collect seeds on the refuge. Individuals should wear long pants, hats, sunblock, etc. and bring a reusable water bottle.
If you have not volunteered at Neal Smith NWR in the past, those in attendance will also need to fill out a Volunteer Service Agreement. This can be done upon arrival, or by downloading the “Volunteer Serivce Agreement” from the Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge website.
