The first flurries of the season have already flown across parts of Iowa. Are you prepared for many more?

Join Linn County Conservation Education Specialist Chuck Ungs to get ready for another Iowa winter. Ungs will guide participants through a multisession snowshoe building class next month. Classes will meet at the Wickiup Hill Learning Center near Toddville from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, 12, and 19.

In addition to the time spent learning how to assemble traditional snow shoes, participants can varnish their shoes at the Conservation Department shop in the evenings the week after construction. Varnishing them properly may take two or three evenings.

There is a class fee of $185 to cover the cost of a snowshoe kit, a binding set and varnish. The class size is limited to 15 people, and it is recommended participants are high school aged or older.

To participate in the course, registration and payment are due by November 26, 2013. To secure your spot, contact Linn County Conservation at 319-892-6485.
