Iowa By Trail preview

Last night our friends at Shift Interactive stopped by to give us a preview of the new Iowa By Trail app! We couldn’t be more excited that this amazing Iowa project is finally coming together. We wanted to share the fun, so check out the video, pictures and screenshots below.

Iowa By Trail will be an in-depth guide to all of your favorite Iowa trails and destinations. Find more information about the app, INHF’s role and how you can help bring it to life.

Mark your calendars! The Central Iowa version of the app will launch May 01, 2014, and we’re celebrating! Join us at The Riverwalk Hub in downtown Des Moines for food, friends, drinks and smartphones! We’ll be showing off the app and looking forward to an amazing spring & summer trekking our favorite trails.

Now for the fun part. It’s alive!

The basics: When you open the app, Iowa By Trail will automatically geo-locate your location, providing you a map and a list of trails nearby. Look at the map or search through the list—no matter your style you’ll be able to find a beautiful Iowa trail tailored to your wants! Search for trails by difficulty, use and location, filtering your search with custom criteria like accessibility, points of interest and length.

Each trail page is equipped with all the information you need to know: the current weather on the trail, what cities the trail runs through and where you can stop for a drink of water along the way. You’ll be able to find natural areas along the trails too, so birders and prairie enthusiasts alike can find an activity perfect for them.

When you’re ready to start your trail journey, Iowa By Trail will monitor your progress—it can time your trip and follow along to alert you of points of interest up ahead. Snap a picture or write a tip while you’re on the trail—everything you do will be collected into your own profile page. And don’t forget to brag! Share your journey with your friends on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and more! Iowa By Trail will also feature a desktop version, so you can plan your trip ahead of time.
