Enjoy a spring day on the prairie with INHF by going on a hike and joining in a volunteer workday!

The morning will be spent hiking alongside Central Iowa Land Stewardship Director, Ryan Schmidt, to find pasque flowers, one of spring's first wildflowers. The hike will also provide insight into the history of the property and on-site restoration projects.

In the afternoon, join INHF and the Kothenbeutel Land Ambassadors helping with the restoration efforts on the property. Volunteers will remove unwanted brush from the landscape with hand tools (ex. Loppers, handsaws).

The hike will take place between 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m., and the work day will be from 12:30 – 2 p.m. You can attend both the morning and afternoon, or choose between the two activities.

If you're staying for both activities, you are encouraged to bring a lunch. New and experienced hikers alike are welcome!

ABOUT KOTHENBEUTEL HERITAGE PRAIRIE

Kothenbeutel Prairie is a 40-acre native prairie preserve approximately twenty miles south of Mason City. Featuring over 200 plant species and a diverse array of wildlife, it provides a glimpse of what much of Iowa's landscape was once like. INHF purchased the prairie from Daryl Kothenbeutel, who operated a business selling prairie seed, when he retired in 2005. INHF has owned and stewarded the land ever since.

DIRECTIONS

Kothenbeutel Heritage Prairie is located in northern Franklin County approximately 20 miles south of Mason City. Hikers may park along the road on 240th St. west of Thrush Ave. Look for INHF signs and staff.
