Join INHF and the Loess Hills Audubon Society for a rare opportunity to tour the Spirit Knoll property near Sioux City this Saturday, May 4th, beginning at 9 a.m.! The hike will be moderately difficult and will include exploring spring flora and fauna. Stone State Park Manager Kevin Pape and Doug Chafa, wildlife biologist for the Missouri River Unit of the DNR, will be joining us!

Spirit Knoll is progressing toward the designation of State Preserve to protect its natural and archeological resources. High quality native prairie covers much of the property, and it will be a great place for hiking, birding and hunting once it is open to the public. To support Spirit Knoll and help us open up the location to the public, click here. Just $45,000 remains to be raised to complete Spirit Knoll PLUS two additions to Stone State Park. Gifts will be matched by INHF’s Acklin Fund. Special thanks to the Loess Hills Audubon for their $5,000 gift!

To join the hike, meet us at the west entrance to Spirit Knoll, off Highway 12 north of Stone State Park, at 9 a.m. on May 4th. Go through the double gates on the east side of Highway 12, park, and gather just up the hill from the gates. It’s free!
